Soap Box

I don't want to turn this into a political blog. But for just a minute I can't help but to get something off of my chest. I can't understand where some people feel that they have the right to judge others. With all of the different laws in other states that were up for vote a few weeks ago, I was extremely sad about the place where the world is headed. I don't understand how people can come up with a definition of love that is supposed to apply to everyone without understanding other points of view. We are given the right to vote for the greater good of the people and too many people vote without education. When you walk into a voting booth, too many people vote based on what party they are associated with or the ideals they were raised with. I'm not saying that is wrong, but I want to challenge everyone to look outside of the box and DO RESEARCH about what you are voting for. Think about the "what if's". Say you are one of the people that is opposed to gay marriage and/or gays and lesbians adopting children. "What if" you have a son or daughter who is born as a homosexual (yes I believe it is not something that you can choose, but that is MY opinion). How are you going to feel when you never have the opportunity to attend their wedding or spend time with your grandchildren. Who are you to say that 2 men or 2 women can't raise a child in a loving, stable home? Yes, there are challenges that will inevitably be presented, but aren't there challenges in every type of household? As many of you know, this topic hits very close to my heart. Not only b/c my mother, after 35 years finally felt that she could be true to herself and the person that she was born as, but because I have friends and other family members that this directly impacts. Why should they not be able to "love out loud"? There are only 2 people that I believe you have to answer to and that is God and yourself. There is no way that I can say what is best for someone else. I can only open my heart up to everyone allowing them to make their own decisions and give everyone equal opportunities. I have done a lot of research into the law of attraction and practice it in my own life. I truly believe in karma and that god will use what you are passionate about to teach you lessons. I hope that everyone can be blessed with a situation that allows them the opportunity to be open minded. I firmly believe that you can accept people and allow them to be what makes them happy without fully supporting all that comes along with it. I challenge everyone that reads this to be a little bit more open minded today, think about the hardships that other people have that are directly contributed to a decision that you made. Think about the difference that you could make in someone's life just by accepting and embracing them and what they choose in their life. If they aren't hurting anyone, then where is it anyone's place to judge them?

Good point - I've seen that happen. That is, a lot of people get over homophobia when it turns out their own son or daughter is homosexual.

I mostly agree with you. However, many of those people that came out to vote for Obama, ultimately helped pass the gay marriage ban in CA and in other states. Many black voters are very socially conservative, and their vote helped this get banned.

Sorry - didn't mean to publish it as anonymous.

This is a great post. I totally agree and hope our kids will someday read about these issues and won't believe they even existed. We will evolve, unfortunately, it seems evolution is a bit slower than I'd like.
